EXAMINATIONS

Meet Dr. TarantinoAn eye examination in our office is a comprehensive procedure. A detailed history is obtained. Your existing eye glasses or contacts are checked to determine the prescription. A depth perception test, color vision test and visual acuity are obtained. Patients are screened with an auto-refractor to determine their spectacle correction. Children ages 5-11 are tested for visual skills with an instrument called a telebinocular and their examination is slightly different than an adult's eye exam. Children are checked carefully to rule out amblyopia (lazy eye) and appropriately treated if it is discovered.

Focusing and eye coordination deficits are treated with bifocals or vision training. Adult eye exams have more emphasis on the detection of disease than focusing/binocular skills. Patients are more often than not dilated at their first visit, unless they insist otherwise, and carefully evaluated for any disease that would have systemic ramifications (i.e.. diabetes and hypertension).
